Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi Are "Vicious"!

It's been awhile since I made a television recommendation, but you need to be watching the ITV British television series, Vicious, currently airing on PBS on Sunday nights at 10:30 pm.

Synopsis: "Vicious tells the story of aging partners Freddie (Sir Ian McKellen) and Stuart (Sir Derek Jacobi), two men who have lived together in their Covent Garden flat for 49 years. Freddie was a budding actor and Stuart worked in a bar when they first met, but their careers are pretty much over and their lives now consist of entertaining their frequent guests, making sure that their aged dog Balthazar is still breathing, and hurling caustic insults at each other" (Wikipedia).

Review: This series is witty, incredibly sarcastic, and hilarious! Yes, Sir Ian and Sir Derek are campy, over the top stereotypes, but that's what makes it so fantastic. I haven't laughed this hard at a TV show in such a long time! This British comedy is in the same vein (sharp, witty, sarcastic) as Absolutely Fabulous (another favorite of mine).

The fact that this show stars two of Britain's finest actors is what makes the show great. With the genius performances by McKellen and Jacobi, you believe that these men have been together for 49 years and bickering and bantering the entire time...all done with love. The supporting cast really adds flavor to the superb leading men on this show. If you are open minded enough to enjoy a show with an old gay couple as leading characters, you will love this show! If you have issues with gay people, well, I would suggest you crawl back under your rock and go back to watching NASCAR.

After watching the first episode streaming on PBS's website, I just knew I couldn't wait for the rest of the season to air. I immediately had to watch the rest of the series. It was well worth my time and money. You can watch Vicious on PBS. As of today, you've only missed one episode which you can stream on PBS's website as I did (see link above).
